Glam The NICU Newborn Session

The triplets are all doing great and have been home for almost two-weeks. When they were still in the NICU, I was itching to create some newborn images that didn't look like they were in the NICU, yet still showing that they were. While that might sound confusing, it basically meant taking things to the next level, while still keeping it simple and not turning the NICU into a full-blown photography studio.

For the look I wanted to create, I brought in a simple piece of fabric that I could clamp onto the NICU crib. This gave me the soft-white canvas I desired to have our triplets on. I brought in our own swaddle blankets, a simple wrap, and then used some props found in the room. I did want the girls feeding tubes to be visible, and their hats to be from the hospital. Natural light in the NICU, wasn't ideal, so I used a single flash to bounce light as if I was using a large studio softbox.

I loved the look of the colored stethoscopes in the room, so I used those for my prop to tie it all back to the NICU.

Of course I needed a photo of all of the triplets together. Thankfully there were three stethoscopes in the room.
